Reverse! Chip production increased for 4 consecutive months! Analysis of China’s chip import and export from January to July

Recently, the General Administration of Customs released domestic import and export data from January to July 2023.

Import and export data of chips from January to July

In terms of production, in July, domestic chip production increased by 4.1% to 29.2 billion pieces, and this is the fourth consecutive month of positive growth.

You must know that from January 2022 to March 2023, there will be a year-on-year negative growth for 15 consecutive months, and now there will be positive growth for 4 consecutive months, which is a complete reversal of the trend

From January to July, a total of 191.24 billion chips were produced in China. If calculated cumulatively, it decreased by 3.9% year-on-year. Overall, it has not caught up with the output in the same period last year.

China Chips

From the perspective of import and export, in July 2023, China imported 42.4 billion chips, a year-on-year decrease of about 1%, but a month-on-month increase of 2.6%.

From January to July 2023, the number of chips imported by China is 270.17 billion, a decrease of 16.8%, and the import value is 1.32 trillion yuan, a decrease of 16.2%

The number of chips exported by China was 151.7 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 8.3%, while the value fell by 17.2% year-on-year.

What does the data represent?

The increase in chip production represents the recovery of the global chip industry, which started in China. At present, chip companies in other countries and regions around the world are still in a downturn, but China’s chip industry has recovered.

In fact, this is not surprising. As a global electronic product manufacturing base, 70% of the world’s electronic products, including mobile phones, computers, TVs, game consoles, etc., are all manufactured in China.

Statistics show that in 2023, about 75% of the world’s chips will be sold to China after they are manufactured, and then manufactured in China into various electronic products, and then sold to the world.

China CHIPS

At present, after experiencing a whole year of decline in 2022, the global chip industry has shown signs of recovery, so domestic chip production is one step ahead and has grown first.

In addition, domestic production increased first, and then imports increased a few months later, indicating that domestic chips have indeed developed. It is estimated that the self-sufficiency rate has increased to a certain extent, but considering the actual production capacity growth, the increase is not obvious.

In terms of exports, the decline in the amount is much larger than the decline in the quantity, indicating that the price of chips exported this year has dropped a lot. At the same time, the export unit price is about 3.3 yuan, which is 32% lower than the import unit price of 4.88 yuan. This shows that we import high-end chips and export less. end chip.
